Governor Sanwo-Olu Engages Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy Fellows on Visionary Leadership

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, recently hosted an insightful Fireside Chat with the second cohort of Fellows from the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA). The event, held at the Lagos House in Ikeja, focused on the significance of visionary and solution-driven leadership in fostering positive change in Nigeria. 

Encouraging Fellows to Innovate and Lead 

Speaking at the State Executive Council Chamber, a hub for critical decision-making in Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the Fellows to seize the unique opportunities presented by the LJLA. He emphasized the importance of innovation, resilience, and a commitment to Nigeria’s progress. 

“The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy was established to create leaders who will positively shape the trajectory of Nigeria and outlive us all,” the governor remarked. He highlighted the academy’s pivotal role in molding change-oriented individuals and equipping them with practical skills to influence policymaking, assess government programmes, and evaluate societal impact. 

Sanwo-Olu encouraged the Fellows to use the knowledge and insights gained from the academy to drive meaningful change within their communities, emphasizing that leadership requires determination, resilience, and a passion for service. 

The Role of LJLA in Leadership Development 

Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, the Executive Secretary of LJLA, expressed her gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering commitment to the academy’s mission. She described his mentorship as instrumental in refining the leadership capabilities of the Fellows and fostering a culture of excellence.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reflected on the legacy of Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Lagos State’s first civilian governor. Jakande’s dedication to education, housing, and transportation continues to inspire the academy’s vision of fostering impactful leaders. 

The Fireside Chat is a vital component of the LJLA Fellowship programme, offering an interactive platform for Fellows to engage with thought leaders and industry experts. Guided by the Chatham House Rule, the sessions encourage open dialogue, critical reflection, and collaborative problem-solving to prepare Fellows for the complexities of governance and public service.
