The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH)

The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi has made a groundbreaking move to reduce the cost of kidney dialysis by 70%. The hospital has cut the price from ₦40,000 to ₦12,000 per session, bringing much-needed relief to patients struggling with kidney-related illnesses.

In a press release on Wednesday, the Head of Public Relations, Usman Koli, described the initiative as a step forward in addressing the financial challenges of healthcare.

Government’s Support in Healthcare Delivery

According to Koli, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare played a pivotal role by ensuring the hospital received essential consumables in large quantities and a new dialysis machine to enhance its services. The Chief Medical Director, Professor Yusuf Bara, expressed optimism about the initiative, stating that it underscores the government’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility for all Nigerians.

“This program showcases the government’s dedication to making quality healthcare affordable and accessible during these challenging times,” Koli remarked.

Over 45 Patients Benefit Already

So far, over 45 patients have benefitted from the subsidized dialysis sessions. This aligns with ATBUTH’s mission to provide high-quality yet affordable healthcare while rebuilding public confidence in the nation’s healthcare system.

One of the beneficiaries, Magaji Galadima, shared his heartfelt gratitude:

“This program has brought hope to many of us who could not afford treatment before. It is truly life changing.

Sustaining the Progress

Professor Yusuf Bara assured the public of the hospital’s commitment to collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to sustain and expand programs like this. He emphasized that such initiatives are vital to ensuring healthcare services remain accessible to all Nigerians, especially those in need.

This program has brought hope to many of us who could not afford treatment before. It is truly life changing.” – Magaji Galadima, a kidney patient at ATBUTH Bauchi.

The reduction in dialysis costs by ATBUTH Bauchi is a significant milestone in making healthcare more affordable for Nigerians. This initiative not only restores hope for kidney patients but also highlights the importance of government and healthcare providers working together for the greater good. By addressing financial barriers, ATBUTH is paving the way for a healthier and more inclusive future for all.
