FCT Police Commissioner Urges Obedience to Traffic Laws, Warns Against Attacks on Officers
The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Ajao Adewale
Avoid Traffic Jams by Following the Rules
The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Ajao Adewale, has urged Abuja residents to obey traffic laws to reduce congestion and ensure safety on the roads. He emphasized that abiding by traffic rules is a key civic duty that benefits everyone in the city.
Recent heavy traffic gridlocks in parts of Abuja have raised concerns among commuters, prompting the police command to call for more responsible driving and public behavior.
Illegal Parking and Roadside Trading Cause Chaos
In a statement released by the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner warned against illegal parking, roadside hawking, and street trading. He noted that such actions obstruct traffic flow, create danger, and can lead to accidents.
“Respecting traffic rules and regulations helps reduce congestion, especially in densely populated areas, and prevents avoidable accidents,” CP Adewale stated.
“Respecting traffic rules is not just about avoiding fines — it’s about protecting lives, ensuring order, and building a safer society for all.” — CP Ajao Adewale
Respect Law Enforcement Officers
CP Adewale also stressed the need for the public to respect police officers and traffic managers who are working to keep the roads safe and organized. He reminded the public that officers are not enemies, but partners in building a better society.
He issued a strong warning against anyone who attacks or obstructs law enforcement officers while they are carrying out their duties, especially those involved in traffic and safety enforcement.
“Anyone found assaulting or obstructing officers… will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he said.
The FCT Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property. Residents are encouraged to do their part by:
Following traffic rules
Avoiding illegal roadside activities
Reporting suspicious behavior and traffic violations
By working together, we can create a safer, more organized and peaceful Federal Capital Territory.
