Solar Borehole Brings Clean Water to Kano Community After 30 Years 

How Yanfiki residents now enjoy safe water through sustainable energy – and how other communities can benefit too 

A New Dawn for Yanfiki 

For over 30 years, residents of Yanfiki, a rural village in Kano State, endured water scarcity, relying on unsafe sources and spending as much as ₦100 per jerrycan. But that struggle has finally ended—thanks to the solar-powered borehole project delivered by the BATN Foundation. 

The new water system includes: 

    A 20,000-litre tank 

    Five dispensing taps 

    Four 400-watt solar panels 

    A submersible pump and a manual hand pump 

    A fenced perimeter for security 

The project not only provides safe water but uses solar energy, reducing environmental impact. 

 Clean Water Through Clean Energy 

According to Nasiru Wada, a board director of BATN Foundation: 

    “Through the deployment of this solar-powered borehole, we are not only ensuring clean water access but also promoting eco-friendly renewable energy solutions.” 

At the commissioning event, the Kano State Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Umar Doguwa, reaffirmed the government’s plan to improve rural infrastructure. 

The foundation also encouraged the community to take full ownership of the facility to ensure its long-term use. 

“This is more than just a borehole; it’s a new beginning. With clean water and solar power, we are proving that rural communities deserve smart, sustainable solutions too.”

    Mobilize community leaders to present the water needs and show readiness to maintain such a facility.
