UK Awards 85 Nigerians Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarships for 2025

Eighty-five Nigerians have been awarded the Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarships by the United Kingdom Government to pursue master’s and PhD programmes in 2025. According to the British High Commission, this year’s awardees include 39 Chevening scholars, one Chevening fellow, and 45 Commonwealth scholars.

A pre-departure event was held in Abuja to celebrate the recipients, with another scheduled in Lagos this September.

Why These Scholarships Matter

These scholarships are more than financial support, they are gateways to leadership, global networking, and impactful careers. Recipients gain access to world-class universities, mentorship opportunities, and international exposure that prepare them to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development upon their return.

The British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Gill Lever, congratulated the winners, noting:

“They will return with lasting positive experiences from the UK and use their knowledge to create positive change in Nigeria and the world.”

Voices of Inspiration

Among the 2025 recipients is Tijjanni Mukaddas, a Chevening Fellow at Oxford University, who expressed gratitude for the chance to develop impactful education policies for Nigerian children.

Similarly, Cynthia Okoli, a Commonwealth Scholar, will pursue studies in veterinary and public health. She highlighted the opportunity to build professional networks across cultures and disciplines.

How Nigerians Can Benefit Too
