Okpebholo Commissions 300 Motorbikes to Secure Edo’s Forests

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has distributed 300 specially designed motorbikes to security agencies across the state to boost patrols in hard-to-reach areas, particularly forest zones where criminal activities like kidnapping often occur.

The handover ceremony took place at the Government House in Benin City and was attended by key stakeholders, including the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, Commander of the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Oduyebo, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Gani Audu.

Governor Okpebholo emphasized his administration’s commitment to keeping Edo State safe, stating:

“We promised our people during the campaign that we would fight insecurity and restore peace to every part of Edo State. Today, we are fulfilling that promise. These bikes will be deployed across the senatorial districts and will help security agencies reach areas where vehicles cannot go.”

A Strong Message to Criminals

The governor sent a clear warning to criminal elements operating within Edo State, saying there would be no hiding place. He stressed that alongside these motorbikes, the state government is investing in modern security technologies to ensure law enforcement agencies remain one step ahead of criminals.

He further assured residents that the bikes will not only be deployed but also properly serviced and maintained for continuous use.

Stakeholders Applaud the Initiative

Security leaders present at the commissioning commended the move, noting that the deployment of the motorbikes would give them an edge in forest terrains. Commissioner of Police Agbonika described the initiative as a “new dawn” for security operations in Edo, highlighting that officers will now have greater access to remote areas.

“Criminals must leave Edo State. These motorbikes, along with other security technologies we are deploying, will make it very difficult for them to operate.” – Governor Monday Okpebholo

Boosting Waste Management Efficiency

In addition to strengthening security, Governor Okpebholo also inaugurated new equipment for the Edo State Waste Management Board, including bulldozers, low-bed trucks, and tractors.

He faulted the practice of the past administration, which reportedly spent over ₦50 million monthly to rent equipment, saying it was wasteful and unsustainable.

“The previous administration spent over N50m monthly to rent caterpillars for waste management. That is not sustainable. These machines were purchased with Edo people’s money for Edo people’s use.”

Managing Director of the board, Lucky Enehita-Inegbeneh, praised the governor for the investment, noting that the new equipment would significantly enhance the board’s capacity to keep the state clean and healthy.

Governor Okpebholo’s twin approach—investing in security patrol motorbikes and waste management machinery—shows a leadership style focused on sustainability and long-term value. With these initiatives, Edo State is set on a path of improved safety, cleanliness, and accountability, ensuring that government resources truly serve the people.
