FG Issues Final Call for National Health Fellows Programme Applications
The Federal Government of Nigeria has urged interested applicants to complete their registration for the second cohort of the National Health Fellows (NHF) Programme ahead of the November 30, 2025, deadline. This initiative aims to strengthen primary healthcare delivery and expand the capacity of the national health workforce across the country.
The programme is managed under the Sector Wide Approach Coordination Office within the Office of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare. It focuses on recruiting, training, and deploying young professionals to support healthcare interventions in all 774 local government areas of Nigeria.
Who Can Apply and How It Works
Applications are open to Nigerians aged 25 to 35 with degrees in health sciences, information technology, social sciences, or related fields. Candidates must demonstrate the ability and commitment to serve in community settings and contribute to public health improvement.
The selection process is merit-based and transparent, involving application screening, competency review, and interviews. Fellows receive structured training covering:
- Public health principles
- Community engagement
- Disease prevention
- Leadership skills
- Data reporting
Following training, fellows are deployed to supervised field placements to gain hands-on experience in primary healthcare delivery. This model equips young professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to tackle Nigeria’s persistent health challenges.
Impact and Opportunities
The first cohort, admitted in January 2025, has been successfully deployed nationwide, supporting community health interventions, surveillance, and primary healthcare strengthening. The programme has demonstrated the potential of young Nigerians to drive meaningful change when given structured opportunities.
“The fellowship is designed to develop a new generation of healthcare leaders through capacity building, practical field engagement, and sustained professional development.”- Prof. Muhammad Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare
The National Health Fellows Programme presents an invaluable opportunity for young Nigerians to build careers in healthcare while serving their communities. Interested applicants should act quickly and complete their registration before the November 30, 2025, deadline by visiting the official NHF Programme channels for detailed instructions.
