AFRIMA 2026 Winners: Celebrating Africa’s Music Stars in Lagos

The 9th All‑Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) took place on January 11, 2026, at the Eko Convention Centre, Lagos, Nigeria, bringing together music stars from across the continent to celebrate outstanding achievements in African music. The night was filled with electrifying performances and honours that recognised both established icons and rising talents. 

Rema and Nigerian Stars Shine Bright 

Nigerian artist Rema was the standout winner of the night, emerging as the biggest awardee with three major accolades

  • Artiste of the Year 
  • Best Male Artiste in Western Africa 
  • Best African Artiste in R&B & Soul His wins cement his place as one of the continent’s most influential contemporary artists. 

Another Nigerian legend, Burna Boy, was honoured with Album of the Year for his project No Sign of Weakness, showcasing his continued global impact. Rising street‑pop sensation Shallipopi secured Song of the Year with Laho and won Best African Collaboration alongside Burna Boy — a testament to the song’s widespread appeal.  

Other Nigerian Winners 

Several other Nigerian acts made the night memorable: 

  • Phyno won Best African Hip‑Hop Artiste 
  • Yemi Alade took home Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series or Documentary for “You Are” 
  • Chella was crowned African Fans’ Favourite 
  • Qing Madi was recognised as Most Promising Artiste of the Year These wins reflect Nigeria’s diverse influence across genres and appeal to different audiences. 

“I’ve been winning awards since I was 19,” said Rema, acknowledging his journey and thanking fans for their unwavering support.  

Continental Highlights 

AFRIMA also honoured top artists from other African regions: 

  • Juma Jux (Tanzania) – Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa 
  • Wendy Shay (Ghana) – Best Female Artiste in Western Africa 
  • Yo Maps (Zambia) – Best Male Artiste in Southern Africa 
  • Nontokozo Mkhize (South Africa) – Best Female Artiste in Southern Africa 
  • Singuila (Congo) – Best Male Artiste in Central Africa 
  • Cindy Le Coeur (DRC) – Best Female Artiste in Central Africa These wins highlighted the rich and diverse musical talent spread across the continent.  

AFRIMA 2026 was more than an award show — it was a celebration of Africa’s cultural unity and musical excellence. With Nigerian artists dominating key categories and talents from across Africa recognised for their artistry, the night underscored the dynamic growth of African music on the global stage.
