Ogun College of Education Begins 29 Independent Degree Programmes
Provost of the institution, Dr Rafiu Soyele
The Federal College of Education (FCE), Abeokuta, has officially launched its independent degree-awarding programmes, ending its long-standing affiliation with other universities for degree courses.
The institution now offers 29 fully approved degree programmes, following a Federal Government directive that all qualified Federal Colleges of Education must operate as stand-alone degree institutions.
The Provost, Dr Rafiu Soyele, announced this during a press briefing to mark the college’s 50th Founders’ Day Anniversary and 26th Combined Convocation.
What This Means for Students and Parents
This development means that students can now study for their degrees directly at FCE Abeokuta, without going through any partner university.
According to the provost, the college has already admitted over 400 prospective students into the newly approved degree courses, while more than 600 students are already within the degree programme system.
Dr Soyele also confirmed that 2,361 students will graduate during the combined convocation for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions.
Why This Change Is Important
The college previously ran its degree programmes in affiliation with the University of Ibadan, which produced several sets of graduates. However, the Federal Government now requires eligible Colleges of Education to run their own degree programmes independently.
This move is expected to:
improve access to quality degree education
strengthen teacher training in Nigeria
reduce dependence on affiliate centres
The college currently has over 170 PhD holders across its departments, reflecting its strong academic capacity.
How to Be Part of the New Degree Programmes
Interested candidates and parents should:
Apply directly to Federal College of Education, Abeokuta for its approved degree programmes.
Avoid enrolling in any affiliate or satellite degree centres, as they no longer run 100-level degree programmes.
Monitor the school’s official admission channels and JAMB platforms for application guidelines and course availability.
“The teaching profession is the backbone of national development. No nation can attain sustainable growth without investing heavily in teacher education and human capacity development.” – Dr Rafiu Soyele, Provost, FCE Abeokuta.
The launch of 29 independent degree programmes at FCE Abeokuta creates a fresh and reliable pathway for students who want quality university education, especially in teacher education and related disciplines. For families seeking accredited and affordable degree options in Ogun State, FCE Abeokuta now stands as a direct and credible choice.
