The Lagos State Government has announced a partial closure of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway to allow the Federal Ministry of Works to carry out urgent rehabilitation on some sections of the road.
The closure will last for four weeks, starting from Wednesday, February 11, 2026, and ending on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, confirmed this in a statement shared on X.
According to him, the repairs will cover the stretch from U-Turn Bus Stop to Sango Tollgate and will affect both directions of the expressway.
How the Repairs Will Be Carried Out
To reduce traffic disruption, the rehabilitation will be done in two phases.
“The rehabilitation work is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, and end on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, spanning a period of four weeks,” Osiyemi said.
Phase One: Abeokuta-Bound Traffic (Feb 11 – March 4)
Phase One will affect vehicles going towards Abeokuta and Sango Tollgate.
The work will run from U-Turn Bus Stop inward to Sango Tollgate.
During this period, traffic coming from Lagos/Abule-Egba towards Abeokuta will be diverted to one half of the road, about 20 metres away from the work area.
Rehabilitation will be done one lane at a time. After one side is completed, traffic will be moved to the repaired section while work continues on the other side.
Motorists travelling towards Lagos will enjoy free flow of traffic during Phase One.
Phase Two: Lagos-Bound Traffic (March 4 – March 11)
Phase Two will affect vehicles heading towards Lagos.
The work will cover the stretch from Obadeyi Bus Stop to Ekoro Junction.
During this phase, traffic from Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate towards Lagos/Abule-Egba will be diverted to one half of the road, while repairs continue on the other half.
Motorists going towards Abeokuta will continue to move freely during this phase.
The Lagos State Government says traffic officers and road signs will be deployed to manage movement throughout the project. Motorists are advised to plan their trips ahead, follow traffic instructions and remain patient as the repairs are carried out for safer and better roads.
