FAAN and MTN Launch Free Wi-Fi at Lagos and Abuja Airports
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and MTN Nigeria have officially launched free Wi-Fi services at two of Nigeria’s busiest airports — the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal 2, Lagos, and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The initiative follows years of complaints from passengers about poor or non-existent internet access at Nigerian airports, despite repeated budgetary provisions for connectivity.
Under the partnership, MTN Nigeria is funding the installation of the free Wi-Fi infrastructure, while FAAN is providing advertising spaces for the telecom company within the airport terminals.
How the partnership works
According to information made available by The Punch, the collaboration is structured as a public-private partnership aimed at improving passenger experience and modernising airport operations.
At the official launch held in Lagos, the Managing Director of FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, was represented by the Director of Airport Operations, Abdullahi Mahmood.
MTN Nigeria was represented by its Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Lynda Saint-Nwafor, on behalf of the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola.
What passengers should expect
Speaking at the event, Saint-Nwafor assured airport users that the new service would be secure, reliable and built to meet increasing digital demands.
“This partnership reflects a shared vision to improve customer experience and position Nigerian airports within global standards of digital connectivity.”
FAAN also described the project as a turning point for airport operations and passenger satisfaction, noting that it demonstrates how effective collaboration between government agencies and private companies can accelerate infrastructure delivery.
Expansion plans and government alignment
The free Wi-Fi service will be extended to the MMIA temporary terminal and other international airports across the country within the next three months.
The project aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and the reform drive of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has proposed an ₦800 million allocation in the 2026 budget to upgrade internet services across several international and domestic terminals.
For frequent travellers, the launch marks a practical improvement in comfort, productivity and communication at Nigerian airports — and a clear signal that digital infrastructure is finally receiving real attention.
