Lagos Provides Alternative Routes as Kara Bridge Rehabilitation Resumes
The Lagos State Government has issued a traffic advisory for motorists following the resumption of rehabilitation work on the Kara Bridge (outbound Lagos). The partial closure, scheduled from March 10 to 28, is part of efforts by the Federal Government to repair and maintain the critical bridge infrastructure.
Alternative Routes for Motorists
To reduce congestion during the two-week repair period, the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has recommended designated diversion routes for commuters.
Route Option 1 – For Motorists from Third Mainland Bridge
Motorists are advised to:
- Connect Ketu to Mile 12
- Link Ogolonto to Ikorodu Garage
- Proceed via Sabo Roundabout to Isagamu Road / Itokin Road to continue their journeys
“Motorists from Third Mainland Bridge are urged to connect Ketu to Mile 12, link Ogolonto to Ikorodu Garage, and pass through Sabo Roundabout to Isagamu Road/Itokin Road to reach their destinations,” the ministry said.
Route Option 2 – For Motorists from Lagos Island
Those traveling from Lagos Island are advised to:
- Link Ilubinrin to Ijora Bridge
- Access Eko Bridge to Funsho Williams Avenue
- Connect Ikorodu Road to Ojota to Ketu, then Mile 12 to Ogolonto to Ikorodu Garage
- Proceed via Sabo Roundabout to Isagamu Road/Itokin Road
Alternative route: Motorists can also go via Ikorodu Garage → Sabo Roundabout → Ogijo → Likosi → Shimawa → Lotto → Mowe to reach their destinations.
Traffic Management Measures
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will deploy officials along the rehabilitation corridor, and traffic signs will be strategically placed to ease vehicular flow. Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys ahead of time to avoid unnecessary delays.
“We urge all road users to make use of the approved alternative routes and cooperate with traffic officials to ensure smooth movement during the bridge rehabilitation,” the ministry advised.
The partial closure of the Kara Bridge is essential for maintenance and long-term road safety. With proper planning and use of the recommended alternative routes, motorists can minimize delays and navigate Lagos traffic efficiently during the repair period.
