JAMB 2026 UTME UPDATE: ARRIVAL TIME CHANGED TO 7:00 A.M — WHAT CANDIDATES MUST KNOW

JAMB has adjusted the 2026 UTME first-session arrival time from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. This article explains the updated schedule, reasons for the change, exam timing, and important guidelines candidates must follow.

Introduction

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially revised the arrival time for candidates sitting for the first session of the 2026 UTME.

Instead of the earlier 6:30 a.m., candidates are now expected to arrive by 7:00 a.m.

According to verified reports, the change applies only to the first session and does not affect other exam details.

Exam Start: 8:30 a.m.

Exam End: 10:30 a.m.

Other Sessions (Daily Structure)

Second Session: 9:00 a.m. arrival

Third Session: 11:00 a.m. arrival

Fourth Session: Afternoon session (varies by centre schedule)

The UTME is scheduled to run from April 16 to April 25, 2026, nationwide.

Why JAMB Changed the Time

JAMB explained that the adjustment was made after feedback from parents, schools, and candidates.

Key reasons include:

1. Safety concerns

Many candidates were required to travel very early in the morning, sometimes before sunrise.

2. Transport challenges

Early movement created difficulty in accessing CBT centres on time.

3. Logistical improvement

The shift helps reduce crowding and improves exam centre coordination.

“Success in examinations is not just about knowledge, but also about preparation, timing, and discipline — and staying informed is the first step to winning.”

Important Instructions for Candidates

✔ Arrive early — at least 7:00 a.m.

✔ Do NOT panic or rush late-night travel

✔ Stick to your exam slip details

✔ Follow CBT centre instructions strictly

✔ No need to reprint exam slip after the update

What This Means for Students

This change may look small, but it is important because:

It reduces morning travel risks

It gives candidates more preparation time

It improves exam organisation across centres

Expert Insight

Education analysts note that CBT exams in Nigeria require strict timing and coordination, so even a 30-minute adjustment can significantly improve candidate safety and logistics.

The updated UTME schedule by JAMB reflects a positive step toward improving safety and exam efficiency for candidates across Nigeria. Students are advised to stay informed, plan early, and avoid last-minute movement on exam days.

Proper preparation and time management remain key to success in the 2026 UTME.
