Veteran Nigerian actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66. His death marked the end of a career spanning more than four decades in Nigeria’s theatre and film industry.
Born on October 31, 1959, in Ilaro, Ogun State, Hassan did not begin his journey as a movie star. He trained as an automobile mechanic and later worked with the Lagos State Water Corporation for about 13 years while developing his passion for acting. He began acting in 1981 and eventually left his government job in 1994 to pursue entertainment full-time.
Ogogo became one of the most recognisable faces of Yoruba cinema, appearing in productions including Owo Blow, Omo Ghetto, Tenant of the House, Aníkúlápó and Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre. He also worked as a producer, director and screenwriter, contributing to Nigerian storytelling beyond acting.
