Abuja Truck Explosion: Nigerians Urged to Donate Blood for Victims

The National Blood Service Agency (NBSA) has called on Nigerians, particularly residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to donate blood to support victims of the tragic tanker explosion that occurred along the Aya-Karu expressway in Abuja. 

Urgent Need for Blood Donations 

In a statement released on Thursday, the Director General of the NBSA, Prof. Saleh Yuguda, emphasized that the incident resulted in multiple casualties, many of whom require immediate blood transfusions. He noted that hospitals and emergency response teams are working tirelessly to save lives, but a sufficient blood supply is crucial to their efforts. 

Details of the Incident 

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the explosion occurred on Wednesday at about 7 p.m. when a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) truck lost control and crashed into another truck along the Aya-Karu expressway. The accident led to: 

    Six confirmed deaths 

    18 vehicles destroyed by fire 

    An unspecified number of injured victims 

The injured individuals were rushed to medical facilities, including the National Hospital, State House Clinic, Karu General Hospital, and Customs Clinic in Karu, for urgent medical attention.
