AIICO Insurance Launches Recycling Project for a Greener Future
AIICO Insurance Plc has rolled out the “Recycling at AIICO Project”, an initiative focused on reducing non-biodegradable waste, promoting responsible consumption, and building a sustainable workplace culture. The programme, launched in the last quarter of 2024, reflects the company’s belief that true success goes beyond profits—it includes protecting the planet for future generations.
The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 12 and 13, which emphasize responsible production and climate action.
Why the Project Matters
AIICO’s Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Manager, Mrs. Abimbola Shobanjo, explained the vision behind the project:
“The Recycling at AIICO Project demonstrates that growth and sustainability can go hand in hand. We are intentional about reducing our environmental footprint and showing that business success is not defined by profit alone, but by the positive legacy we leave behind for future generations.”
Through this project, AIICO aims to:
Minimise non-biodegradable waste like plastics and paper.
Encourage reuse and recycling across its offices.
Educate and engage employees on eco-friendly practices.
Embed sustainability into daily business operations.
Partnership with Wecyclers
The initiative is in partnership with Wecyclers, a waste management company that ensures collected materials are properly processed and recycled. The pilot phase at AIICO’s Ikeja office recorded strong staff participation and improved waste management. Following its success, the programme is being expanded nationwide.
“Sustainability is not just about protecting the planet—it’s about creating healthier communities, new opportunities, and a lasting legacy for generations to come.”
How Nigerians Can Benefit
This initiative is not limited to AIICO staff—it sets an example for individuals, businesses, and communities:
Households: Families can sort waste, reuse plastics, and partner with local recyclers like Wecyclers for collection.
Businesses: Offices can adopt simple recycling bins, train staff, and track waste reduction.
Communities: Organizing local clean-up drives and recycling hubs can create jobs and cleaner environments.
Entrepreneurs: Recycling offers business opportunities in areas like plastic collection, upcycling, and eco-friendly products.
By adopting these practices, Nigerians can reduce pollution, improve health, and even earn income from recyclable waste.
The Recycling at AIICO Project shows that protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility. By embracing recycling and sustainability, Nigerians can secure cleaner surroundings, new job opportunities, and a healthier planet for future generations.
