Dangote Cement Empowers Youth Through Sports and Education
Dangote Cement Plant, Obajana, has kicked off its 2025 Sustainability Week with a powerful message of unity, growth, and empowerment. Under the theme “Sustainable Progress: Celebrating Growth and Partnerships,” the initiative blends sportsmanship, education, and community development — showing how businesses can create lasting impact beyond profit.
A Celebration of Growth and Partnership
The weeklong event, which began on October 24, 2025, features activities designed to promote both physical wellness and intellectual development among youth and community members. The highlight was a football tournament that brought together teams from Dangote Cement’s workforce and surrounding communities.
After several days of exciting matches, the Oyo Community Football Team emerged champions with a thrilling 1–0 win over Dangote Cement Transport at the Obajana Academy Field. The event was more than a competition — it was a bridge that united employees and residents, encouraging teamwork, respect, and friendship.
Speaking at the ceremony, Plant Director, Mr. Azad Nawabuddin, emphasized the company’s goal:
“The football tournament we witnessed today does much more than provide entertainment – it builds character, teaches valuable life lessons, and creates enduring bonds between our organization and the communities we serve.”
Empowering Minds Through Education
Beyond sports, Dangote Cement also hosted an Inter-School Spelling Bee and Quiz Competition, engaging ten secondary schools from the host communities. The contest provided young learners with a platform to showcase their knowledge, confidence, and leadership potential.
Golden Vessels Academy, Obajana, clinched the top spot, inspiring other students to strive for excellence.
“Our simultaneous focus on sporting activities and educational initiatives represents a deliberate strategy to nurture both the physical and intellectual capabilities of our community members.”- Mr. Peter Agba, Head of HAM-Admin/HR
Conclusion
Dangote Cement’s 2025 Sustainability Week is more than a corporate event — it’s a blueprint for community empowerment.
