Dangote Cement Expands Scholarship to 51 Kogi Communities

Dangote Cement Plc has extended its scholarship programme to 51 communities within the Oworo District of Kogi State. This move, announced during the award ceremony in Obajana, is aimed at supporting students who previously had no access to the company’s scholarship scheme.

According to the Plant Director, Azad Nawabuddin, the decision to include Oworo communities, even though they are outside the company’s catchment areas, shows Dangote’s dedication to improving education and community development. Beyond scholarships, the company is also providing five boreholes to improve access to clean water.

Scholarship Details and Opportunities

The scheme initially covers 50 students, with 26 females and 24 males as beneficiaries. Importantly, Dangote Cement has promised to support each student until they complete their studies, provided they maintain good academic performance. Once beneficiaries graduate, new students will be selected, giving more young people the chance to benefit.

This scholarship represents more than just financial aid; it is a symbol of hope, equal opportunity, and empowerment for children regardless of their background.

Community and Government Commendation

Community leaders and government officials applauded the initiative. The President of the Oworo Development Association, Alhaji Jibril Ibrahim, encouraged beneficiaries to take the opportunity seriously, remain disciplined, and strive to excel. The Kogi State Ministry of Education also praised the scheme, describing it as a vital public-private partnership that supports development.

How Nigerians Can Benefit

Students in the Oworo District are encouraged to:

Apply when opportunities are announced.

Maintain good academic records to continue benefiting from the programme.

Use the scholarship as motivation to achieve excellence and give back to their communities.

For others, this shows the importance of being attentive to corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes in their areas. Many companies offer scholarships, training, or empowerment initiatives—students and parents should actively seek out and apply for them.

“Education remains the strongest foundation for development, and by supporting young people, we build stronger communities.” – Oba Federick Balogun

The expansion of Dangote Cement’s scholarship to the Oworo District is a reminder that education can transform lives when public and private sectors work together. By taking advantage of such programmes, young Nigerians can secure a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
