Ekiti Employs 250 Health Workers, renovates 103 PHCs to Improve Access to Quality Healthcare

Ekiti State Government has taken major steps to make healthcare more accessible, especially for people in rural areas. According to the Commissioner for Health, Dr Oyebanji Filani, 250 new health workers—including nurses, midwives, and community health officers—have been employed and posted across the state’s Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs).

He made this known during a community engagement held in Ikere and Otun Ekiti. The move is part of the state’s broader healthcare reform under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund and the Ulerawa programme.

What’s Available and How to Benefit

Under these programmes:

Free Services: Every resident of Ekiti can now access free services such as maternal health care, childcare, malaria treatment, lab tests, and immunization at any of the 177 PHCs in the state.

Improved Facilities: The government is renovating 103 PHCs, adding electricity, water supply, perimeter fencing, and modern medical equipment.

Constant Drug Supply: Through the Drug Management Agency, essential drugs are now available consistently across PHCs.

Recruitment of Doctors: The government is currently hiring doctors in batches and also deploying NYSC doctors to improve care quality.

To benefit, simply visit the PHC in your community. All residents—especially pregnant women, nursing mothers, and caregivers—are encouraged to register and use the health facilities for their medical needs.

“Our goal is to ensure people get the medical attention they need, with qualified professionals and the right equipment in place,” — Dr Oyebanji Filani, Ekiti State Commissioner for Health

Stakeholder Support

Local Government Chairmen Olu Adamolekun (Ikere) and Bamidele Fadugba (Moba) praised the initiative, noting a rise in facility usage and better health outcomes. Dr Charles Doherty of the Ekiti State Health Insurance Scheme confirmed that essential treatments and drugs at PHCs remain free.

This initiative by the Biodun Oyebanji-led government is not only improving the quality of healthcare but also removing financial barriers for residents. To stay healthy, make the most of these free services by visiting the PHC closest to you today.
