Fidelity Bank Plc has donated maternity kits to 30 pregnant women at the Mushin Primary Health Centre, Lagos. This gesture, organized by the Great Minds Inductees Class, is part of the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme (FHHP), a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at promoting staff-driven community development.

The FHHP encourages employees across the bank’s locations to identify community-focused projects, raise funds to support them, and receive matching contributions from the bank’s management to implement these initiatives. This innovative program underscores Fidelity Bank’s commitment to improving the lives of its host communities.

Addressing Maternal Mortality in Nigeria

At the handing-over ceremony, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, Divisional Head of Brand and Communications at Fidelity Bank, emphasized the importance of supporting maternal health. “This project was borne out of the need to support pregnant women with essential materials for safe delivery,” he explained. “Maternal mortality remains a significant public health challenge in Nigeria, with the country accounting for about 28.5% of global maternal deaths, according to a 2023 United Nations report. This alarming statistic spurred us to act by supporting the Mushin community.

Local Authorities Commend Fidelity Bank

Dr. Kayode Odufuwa, Medical and Health Officer for Mushin Local Government Area, expressed gratitude for the bank’s intervention. He noted that the donation would not only reduce maternal mortality but also encourage more women from less-privileged backgrounds to register for antenatal care. On behalf of the Mushin LGA Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Bamgboye, Dr. Odufuwa appealed for continued collaboration with the bank to strengthen healthcare services.

Mrs. Bolanle Odunlami, Apex Nurse and Deputy Director of Nursing Services in Mushin LGA, also praised Fidelity Bank’s generosity. “The donation is a much-needed relief for many mothers who cannot afford essential delivery kits. Fidelity Bank has demonstrated empathy and care through this initiative, and we are extremely grateful.

Supporting maternal health is not just an act of kindness; it is a commitment to building healthier communities and securing a brighter future for generations to come.

Beneficiaries Express Gratitude

One of the recipients, Mrs. Mary Olusanya, shared her appreciation: “Many pregnant women cannot afford these kits, but this donation ensures safe deliveries and better healthcare. I am deeply thankful to Fidelity Bank for their support.

Fidelity Bank’s CSR-driven maternity kit donation underscores its commitment to improving maternal health and reducing mortality rates in Nigeria. With over 8.3 million customers and 251 business offices in Nigeria and the UK, the bank continues to champion impactful initiatives that uplift communities. This effort is a testament to the power of collective action in addressing critical public health challenges.
