The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has revealed plans to integrate youth empowerment initiatives into its 2026 budget through the National Artisans Skills Acquisition Programme (NASAP). The programme aims to tackle youth unemployment by equipping young Nigerians with practical and in-demand skills in housing, construction, and infrastructure development.

Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Rt Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, stated that the government is committed to creating sustainable job opportunities by training artisans who will contribute to Nigeria’s housing and urban development goals.

He made this known when he received a delegation from the University of Uyo Centre for Skills Acquisition and Rural Development, led by Ambassador Ernest Essien, who also pledged support in training a skilled workforce for the sector.

How Young Nigerians Can Benefit

The National Artisans Skills Acquisition Programme (NASAP) is open to all Nigerian youths interested in developing technical and vocational skills. Beneficiaries will receive hands-on training, digital certification, and potential job placements in various construction and housing projects nationwide.

To participate, youths are encouraged to:

  1. Stay updated on official announcements from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
  1. Visit the Ministry’s website or offices in their state to apply once registration opens.
  1. Enroll in accredited training centres or partner institutions such as the University of Uyo Centre for Skills Acquisition.
  1. Complete the required training to receive certification that qualifies them for employment in housing and infrastructure projects.

“We are committed to empowering young Nigerians with the skills and tools to build not only houses but their future,” — Rt Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata.

The 2026 Housing Ministry budget reflects a strong focus on youth development and national growth through skills acquisition. With initiatives like NASAP, the Federal Government is opening doors for thousands of young Nigerians to gain meaningful employment, reduce dependence on white-collar jobs, and strengthen the nation’s economy through skilled labour.
