MAPOLY May Expel 49 Final-Year Students Over Fake Results

Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY)

Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) has identified 49 Higher National Diploma (HND) final-year students who allegedly presented fake National Diploma (ND) results to gain admission. The revelation followed a meticulous result verification process by the institution.

The affected students span several departments, including Mass Communication, Pharmaceutical Technology, Marketing, Science Laboratory Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Accountancy. Some of the fake ND results were reportedly sourced from institutions such as The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro; Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa; and Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa, Oyo State.

Institution’s Response and Verification Process

MAPOLY’s Public Relations Officer, ‘Yemi Ajibola, emphasized the importance of the verification process in maintaining academic integrity. He explained that the delay in releasing results was due to administrative challenges and the need to authenticate the documents submitted by students.

Ajibola clarified that the students found guilty of presenting fake results would not face immediate expulsion. Instead, they would be given an opportunity to defend their credentials. “If any discrepancies in the verification process are identified, they will be corrected. However, those who fail to substantiate their results will be expelled,” he stated.

Reinstatement of Students Union

Following a student-led crisis that prompted the indefinite closure of the institution, MAPOLY’s management dissolved the Students Union Executive Council. However, the union was reinstated after intervention by the institution’s Governing Council, chaired by Emeritus Prof. Kamaldeen Balogun.

The council directed the union to oversee the election of new leaders within four weeks. This decision aims to restore harmony and ensure smooth student representation. The institution’s management expressed gratitude to staff, students, and the community for their cooperation during the crisis.

Integrity is the foundation of true success. Shortcuts may lead to temporary gains, but honesty ensures a legacy.

This situation highlights the importance of honesty and integrity in academic pursuits. The consequences of presenting fake credentials can be far-reaching, including expulsion and reputational damage. Institutions must remain vigilant in verifying documents to maintain standards.

For students, the takeaway is clear: prioritize hard work and authenticity. Success achieved through shortcuts or falsified means rarely lasts and often leads to dire consequences. This incident also underscores the importance of peaceful dialogue in resolving crises rather than resorting to disruptive actions.
