Nestlé and FG Launch National Campaign to Improve Water Quality in Nigeria

Nestlé Nigeria,.

Nestlé Nigeria, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, has launched a National Water Quality Advocacy Campaign to promote clean and safe water practices across the country. The goal is to raise awareness, educate communities, and drive stakeholder engagement on water safety and sustainable usage.

The campaign was officially announced during a courtesy visit in Abuja, where representatives from Nestlé and the Organised Private Sector in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (OPS-WASH) met with the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Utsev.

Why This Campaign Matters

Unsafe water continues to pose serious health threats such as cholera, diarrhea, and other water-borne diseases in many Nigerian communities. The campaign is designed to address these risks while also supporting climate resilience and flood management.

According to the Minister, “The Ministry is committed to working with Nestlé Nigeria to improve water quality across the country. This partnership is in line with our mission to ensure safe water access and support the health and well-being of all Nigerians.”

How Communities Will Benefit

The campaign is built on three pillars:

Raising awareness and educating the public

Engaging government, private sector, and community stakeholders

 Implementing sustainable water projects

Already, 16 communities in Abaji (FCT) and 8 in Agbara (Ogun State) have been selected to benefit from the programme. Additionally, two agricultural communities will receive water harvesting systems to improve irrigation and food security.

Dr. Nicholas Igwe, National Coordinator of OPS-WASH, said, “We are taking a long-term, impact-led approach to empower communities with real solutions.”

How You Can Take Advantage

Stay informed through community meetings and media updates on when programmes will begin in your area.

Participate in awareness and training sessions when invited.

Report water issues in your community to your local health authorities or community leaders for possible intervention.

Advocate for better water management practices in your environment.

“Our campaign is not just about raising awareness; it’s about shifting behaviours and building partnerships that deliver lasting impact,” said Victoria Uwadoka, Nestlé Nigeria’s Public Affairs and Sustainability Lead.

This partnership between Nestlé and the Federal Government is a critical step toward making safe water a reality for all Nigerians. Through collaboration and community involvement, the campaign promises to deliver long-term benefits for health, agriculture, and the environment.
