Ogun Governor Donates N20 Million to Cycling for Autism Initiative

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has donated N20 million to the Cycling for Autism with KanyeChukwu initiative, supporting its mission to raise awareness about autism across Nigeria. The donation was made during a meeting with the initiative’s team at the Governor’s office in Oke-Mosan on Tuesday.

Autism Is Not a Disease, But a Special Condition

Governor Abiodun emphasized that autism is a condition that requires understanding, patience, and dedicated care, rather than being seen as a disease. He described children with autism as special, noting that many possess unique talents that can be nurtured with the right support.

Spotlight on Master Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke

The initiative is led by 16-year-old Master Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, a Nigerian painter and autism advocate. Diagnosed with non-verbal autism, Kanye communicates through vibrant abstract art.

Kanye holds the 2025 Guinness World Record for the largest art canvas ever created in Abuja, measuring 12,380 square metres. He also won the Austrian Flame of Peace Award at the age of eight and has held art exhibitions across Europe, Africa, and North America.

Governor Abiodun praised the young artist and his parents, stating:

“Kanye exemplifies someone who has defied limitations. His condition has not been allowed to become crippling; instead, his strengths have been discovered and celebrated.”

He encouraged parents of children with autism to identify and nurture their children’s talents, rather than focusing on limitations.

Cycling for Autism Initiative: Nationwide Awareness and Support

The Cycling for Autism with KanyeChukwu initiative is raising awareness across Nigerian states—from Enugu to Lagos—reaching rural communities, schools, and churches.

Mr. Tagbo Okeke, Kanye’s father, highlighted the urgent need for trained caregivers, explaining that the initiative aims to train 1,000 autism caregivers in 2026. The initiative has partnered with the Cycling Federation of Nigeria and will cover over 600 kilometres nationwide to promote education and support for families affected by autism.

Families with children diagnosed with autism can benefit from the initiative by:

“Autism is not a limitation—it is an opportunity to unlock hidden potential.” – Governor Dapo Abiodun

The N20 million donation by Governor Abiodun underscores the importance of supporting autism awareness initiatives in Nigeria. By identifying talents, providing proper care, and educating communities, initiatives like Cycling for Autism with KanyeChukwu are transforming lives. Families seeking support are encouraged to register early and take part in the initiative’s programs to help their children thrive.
