OPay Launches N1.2 billion Scholarship with Olabisi Onabanjo University: How Students Can Benefit

In a major step towards youth empowerment, OPay, one of Nigeria’s leading financial technology companies, has partnered with Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in a groundbreaking N1.2 billion, 10-year scholarship initiative. OOU becomes the ninth university to join this life-changing programme.

What the Scholarship Offers

The OPay scholarship will support 20 students annually, each receiving ₦300,000 per year for tuition and academic-related expenses over the next 10 years. That means 200 students from OOU will ultimately benefit from this scheme.

This funding will help students worry less about school fees and focus more on their education, growth, and long-term goals.

“We believe this initiative will allow talented students to focus on their education,” said Mr. Justin Zhang, Chief Public Affairs Officer at OPay, during the signing of the partnership agreement.

Who Can Apply and How to Benefit

While OPay has not yet released the specific application process for each school, students should:

Stay connected with their university authorities – Updates on how to apply for the scholarship will likely come through the school’s official channels.

Maintain good academic performance – Merit and need-based criteria may be used in selecting beneficiaries.

Follow OPay and university social media handles – Important announcements will be made through these platforms.

Visit the student affairs office or scholarship board at OOU – They may offer guidance on how and when to apply.

“This scholarship is more than financial support; it’s a bridge to dreams. With OPay’s investment, many of our students can now pursue their education without fear of dropping out due to lack of funds.”

Why This Matters for Nigerian Youth

This scholarship isn’t just about free tuition—it’s about creating a better future. By removing financial barriers, OPay is helping students stay in school, reduce dropout rates, and access the tools they need to succeed.

According to the Vice-Chancellor of OOU, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, many students are forced to take gap years due to lack of funds. This scholarship will allow them to pursue their dreams without interruption.
