Osun Schools Get Internet Boost as IHS Nigeria and UNICEF Empower 200 Teachers

In a major step toward digital transformation in education, 100 public schools in Osun State have been equipped with internet connectivity and routers, thanks to a collaborative effort between the Osun State Government, IHS Nigeria Limited, and UNICEF.

Training 200 Educators for the Digital Age

About 200 teachers, principals, and headteachers from 40 public primary and 60 secondary schools participated in a digital literacy and connectivity training held in Ede, Osun State. The initiative is part of a broader goal to improve access to technology in education and ensure that pupils benefit from digital resources.

Mr. M. Jimoh, Permanent Secretary of the Osun State Ministry of Education, expressed appreciation for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s support in making the programme possible. He encouraged the educators to make good use of the training and equipment provided.

“Ensure that the gadgets are used to benefit your pupils and impact knowledge,” Jimoh urged the participants.

How Schools and Pupils Can Benefit

Each of the 100 participating schools received:

    A router with unlimited data,

    Training on digital literacy,

Access to the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP) — an online learning platform with quality learning materials.

The Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP) is an e-learning platform designed to help teachers and students access up-to-date learning resources anytime, anywhere. Pupils in these schools can now:

    Learn new subjects online,

Practice digital skills early in life,

Stay up to date with modern teaching methods.

Teachers, on the other hand, can:

Enhance their lesson delivery with technology,

    Access professional development materials online,

Collaborate with other educators across the country.

“Digital literacy is not a luxury; it is a necessity. By providing access to these tools, we are helping students acquire skills that will empower them to participate actively in tomorrow’s economy.”

Corporate Social Impact in Action

Speaking on behalf of IHS Nigeria Limited, Director of Sustainability, Tolulope Oyenuga, highlighted the programme’s mission to bridge the digital divide and empower communities.

“Digital literacy is not a luxury; it is a necessity. By providing access to these tools, we are helping students acquire skills that will empower them to participate actively in tomorrow’s economy,” she said.

IHS Nigeria worked closely with UNICEF and Focus Teens Foundation, the implementing partner, to ensure smooth deployment of the connectivity tools and training across the state.

This initiative marks a significant step toward inclusive education and digital empowerment in Nigeria. As more students in public schools gain access to the internet and digital tools, they will be better equipped for higher education, employment, and entrepreneurship in the digital world.

Teachers and school heads are encouraged to actively integrate these digital tools into classroom learning and create an environment where students thrive through modern learning methods.
