The National Films and Videos Censors Board (NFVCB) has concluded its 5th Peace Anyiam-Osigwe Nigeria Digital Content Regulation Conference in Lagos, focusing on how Nollywood can shift “From Volume to Value” in the digital age. The two-day event brought together some of the biggest names in the film industry and provided valuable insights for filmmakers, creatives, and audiences.

Driving Nollywood’s Growth in the Digital Era

Industry stakeholders—including actors, directors, producers, and scriptwriters—gathered to discuss how Nollywood can strengthen its global presence. Panel sessions explored critical areas such as:

  • Growing Film Audiences Locally and Globally
  • Movie and Content Monetisation
  • Gender-Equitable Narratives in Filmmaking

Experts like Busola Tejumola, Stephanie Linus, Femi Odugbemi, Femi Durojaiye, and Chichi Nworah emphasised the importance of innovation and storytelling that resonates both at home and abroad.

Value Over Volume: A New Direction for Nollywood

One of the strongest messages from the conference was the need to prioritise quality storytelling, training, and collaboration instead of only producing large quantities of films.

“Nollywood must move from focusing on the number of films produced to creating value that can compete globally.”- Bolanle Austen-Peters

Her remarks reflect a growing call for stronger structures, higher production standards, and greater investment in digital distribution.

Celebrating Industry Legends and Inspiring the Future

The NFVCB also honoured 23 Nollywood practitioners turning 50 and 60—icons whose contributions helped shape the industry’s growth. Honorees included:

  • Rita Dominic
  • Ali Baba
  • Segun Arinze
  • Ngozi Ezeonu
  • Sam Dede
  • Eucharia Anunobi
  • Adebayo Tijani
  • Desmond Elliot

Their recognition serves as a reminder of the power of consistency, mentorship, and professional excellence.

The 2025 NFVCB Conference provided vital lessons for filmmakers and audiences: Nollywood’s future depends on quality storytelling, digital innovation, and inclusive narratives. As the industry evolves, collaboration and value-driven production will be key to positioning Nigerian films for global success.
