Sterling Bank Offers Free Bus Rides to Ease Transport Struggles in Lagos

Sterling Bank

Sterling Bank has once again shown what it means to be a truly people-focused institution. After making headlines with its Zero Transfer Fees campaign through the OneBank app, the bank has now introduced free bus rides for Lagos commuters — a bold move aimed at easing the daily struggles of Nigerians.

Free Rides Across Major Routes in Lagos

Last week, many Lagosian stepping out after a long workday were surprised to find Sterling OneBank-branded buses offering them free rides home. These buses now operate across major routes in Lagos, including Obalende, Ikorodu, TBS, and Oshodi.

The initiative, which will run until May 2025, is part of Sterling Bank’s ongoing commitment to supporting Nigerians not just digitally, but physically. With rising transport costs, many citizens have to choose between feeding their families and paying for daily fares. This intervention is timely and impactful.

From Free Transfers to Moving Lives

What started to eliminate bank transfer charges has grown into something even more meaningful. Sterling Bank is now helping customers move—not just their money—but themselves. According to Chidimma Okoli, Masterbrand Marketing Lead at Sterling, “We are tearing down the barriers not only to moving your money but also to moving your life forward.”

Mary E., a market trader from Oshodi, expressed her gratitude after enjoying a free ride: “This is the first time a bank is not just advertising but acting. I’ve saved on transfers and now on transport too.”

“In times of hardship, true leadership is shown not in promises, but in practical actions that uplift lives — one ride, one act of kindness at a time.”

Nigerians Respond with Gratitude

Many Nigerians have taken to social media to appreciate the initiative. A young professional shared on LinkedIn, “Every naira matters. Sterling helped me save time, money, and stress today. They just get it.

Sterling Bank is redefining corporate responsibility by showing that banking should not only be about profits, but also about people. Through thoughtful acts like this, they are helping Nigerians navigate tough times with dignity, relief, and real hope.
