Super Eagles Soar: Nigeria Beats Algeria 2-0 to Reach AFCON 2025 Semi-Finals

Nigeria’s Super Eagles delivered a commanding performance to defeat Algeria 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) at the Stade de Marrakech. Goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams secured Nigeria’s place in the semi-finals, marking their first-ever quarter-final win over Algeria in AFCON history.

This win extends Nigeria’s remarkable run in the tournament, with the team now having won five consecutive matches, scored 14 goals, and showcased a blend of attacking flair and solid defending.

National Leaders Celebrate the Team

President Bola Tinubu praised the Super Eagles for their “brilliant” and “inspiring” performance, saying:

“Brilliant Performance… Inspiring. Go, Super Eagles! You have the support of all Nigerians.”

Former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar also lauded the team, highlighting their fighting spirit and the hope they bring to millions of Nigerians:

“A proud night for our nation. I celebrate the Super Eagles on their solid 2–0 victory over Algeria. Your fighting spirit has once again lifted the hopes of millions of Nigerians. Keep soaring, we are firmly behind you.”

Meanwhile, Peter Obi, former Labour Party candidate, urged the team to maintain momentum as they chase the AFCON trophy:

“Clinical finishing, a rock-solid defence, and a rewarding gift to over 200 million people cheering you on. The AFCON trophy is within reach! Keep the fire burning. Let’s take this momentum straight into the semi-finals! Up Nigeria!”

Dominating the Field

From the opening whistle, Nigeria dominated possession and pressed Algeria high, forcing them into defensive positions. Osimhen led the attack with pace and strength, supported by Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams, while Alex Iwobi controlled the midfield, orchestrating play and creating opportunities.

This historic victory not only cements Nigeria’s place as a top contender in AFCON 2025 but also inspires confidence in the team’s potential to win a fourth continental title. The Super Eagles will now face Morocco in the semi-finals on Wednesday, with the nation rallying behind them.

The Super Eagles’ triumph over Algeria is more than just a football result — it is a moment of national pride, unity, and inspiration. For Nigerians, this victory reminds us of the power of determination, teamwork, and belief. Supporting local talent and celebrating our teams can boost national morale and strengthen Nigeria’s presence in global sports.
