President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived at Umaru Musa Yaradua International Airport in Katsina to personally receive the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday in a London hospital.

Tinubu arrived around 1:48 pm on Tuesday, accompanied by top government officials including governors, ministers, National Assembly members, and dignitaries.

Buhari’s body was flown from the United Kingdom aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft and received with a brief military ceremony at the airport. From there, the remains were transported to Daura, his hometown in Katsina State, for burial.

Funeral and National Mourning Plans

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that the Jana’iza (Islamic funeral prayer) and burial would take place at Buhari’s residence in Daura. He added that the event is being coordinated by an Inter-Ministerial Committee led by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

The Federal Government has declared a national mourning period. Condolence registers are being opened across all Federal Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and Nigerian embassies and missions abroad. Another register is available at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

“The condolences coming in from Heads of State and Governments across the globe are a testament to the global stature and legacy of President Muhammadu Buhari,” Idris said.

FG Delegates and Continued Prayers

Twenty-five members of the Federal Executive Council have been directed to attend the burial rites and remain in Daura for the Third-Day Fidau prayers scheduled for Wednesday. The Federal Government is also working closely with the Katsina State Government and the Buhari family to ensure a smooth and respectful burial.

President Tinubu’s personal involvement in the burial arrangements reflects the significance of Buhari’s legacy in Nigerian and global politics. As Nigerians and world leaders mourn, the late president is being honored with dignity and national respect.
