UNIDO Launches $175 Million Programme to Boost Nigeria’s Industrial Growth
The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) has introduced a groundbreaking Programme for Country Partnership (PCP) in Nigeria, valued at US$175 million, to run from 2024 to 2028. The initiative aims to strengthen Nigeria’s industrial base, support Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), expand value chains, and promote clean energy and digital innovation.
This programme represents a significant milestone in Nigeria’s pursuit of sustainable industrialisation and economic self-reliance. By focusing on local industries, the initiative will help transform raw materials into finished goods, create jobs for youths, and position Nigeria as a regional manufacturing hub.
What Nigerians Stand to Gain
The UNIDO partnership comes at a critical time when many businesses face rising production costs and limited access to funding. Through this initiative, MSMEs will receive capacity-building support, digital training, and access to cleaner technologies that reduce costs and improve efficiency.
For young Nigerians, this means more job opportunities in manufacturing, technology, and renewable energy sectors. Entrepreneurs can also benefit from technical guidance to help them scale their businesses and integrate into international markets.
Farmers and agro-business owners will gain from value-chain development, helping them process and package agricultural produce locally instead of exporting raw products. This will increase income, boost exports, and contribute to food security.
A Step Toward a Sustainable Future
UNIDO’s focus on clean energy solutions and digital transformation aligns with Nigeria’s national development goals and global sustainability efforts. By promoting eco-friendly industries, the programme will reduce carbon emissions and encourage investments in renewable energy.
According to UNIDO officials, “Nigeria’s industrial transformation will not only create jobs but also build a stronger foundation for inclusive and sustainable growth.”-UNIDO Officils
The UNIDO–Nigeria partnership is more than a financial investment — it’s a path toward empowering local talent, strengthening industries, and reducing poverty. For Nigeria’s youth, entrepreneurs, and MSMEs, this is an opportunity to rise, innovate, and take full advantage of a programme designed to secure a brighter, industrially advanced future.
