Nweje’s passing was confirmed on Saturday by movie producer Stanley Ajemba, popularly known as Stanley Ontop. In an emotional tribute shared via his Instagram handle, Ajemba described her as a vibrant actress and a dear friend.
He recounted their last conversation, where she offered him advice during a recent controversy. He wrote:
“Nollywood in tears as we lost one of our vibrant actresses, @nkechi.nweje, after a brief illness. Couldn’t post since morning because it felt like a dream. Ezigbo Nwanyi Onitsha, rest in peace, ma’am. My best friend always called to advise me. The last time we spoke, she said, ‘Ontop, stop.’ I’m still speechless.”
