Lagos Begins 2026 BECE Registration: What Schools and Parents Need to Know
The Lagos State Government has officially announced the start of registration for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for public and private Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) across the state. This exercise is compulsory for all eligible JSS 3 students who will be sitting for the examination.
Registration will run from Monday, January 26 to Friday, March 27, 2026, and is being handled by the Lagos State Examinations Board.
Why This Registration Matters
The BECE is a key examination that qualifies students for promotion into senior secondary school. Without proper registration, students will not be allowed to sit for the exam, making this process very important for schools, parents, and candidates.
How the Registration Will Be Done
The Lagos State Government explained that the registration will be fully digital, reducing stress and eliminating physical contact between school owners and the examinations board. This move is part of the state’s plan to improve transparency, efficiency, and accountability in the examination process.
According to the Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Adebayo Orunsolu, schools must use the newly issued School Code to complete registration.
“Public Junior Secondary Schools are to download the Offline Data Capturing Application via bece.examsboard.lagosstate.gov.ng,” – Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Adebayo Orunsolu,
Approved private junior secondary schools, schools operating with special permission, and continuing education centres (CECs) are required to register and make payments through pay.examsboard.com.ng, where they can also generate their login details.
Registration Fees Breakdown
Approved private JSS and public CECs: ₦10,000 per candidate
JSS with special permission and private CECs: ₦15,000 per candidate
Special Needs Candidates
Schools presenting candidates with special needs, such as visual impairment or albinism, are advised to notify the board early to allow for proper preparation.
“Schools presenting candidates with special needs should inform the board in writing ahead of time,” the registrar added.
Important Warning
Late registration may attract penalties, and further updates will be shared with schools through their zonal officers.
Schools, parents, and guardians are encouraged to act early to avoid unnecessary stress. Timely registration ensures that students are fully prepared and eligible to sit for the 2026 BECE without issues.
