Cornerstone Insurance and Lagos Food Bank Feed Schoolchildren in Lagos

Cornerstone Insurance Plc has partnered again with the Lagos Food Bank Initiative to provide free meals to hundreds of pupils in low-cost private schools across Lagos.

The school feeding exercise began from the Lagos Food Bank’s Mangoro hub, where staff of the insurance company worked alongside volunteers to pack and distribute meals to children from low-income homes. The initiative marks the company’s return to the programme after supporting it last year, showing a strong commitment to tackling child hunger in Nigeria.

Why this matters to Nigerian families

Many children in low-income communities struggle to get at least one nutritious meal each day. According to the Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Cornerstone Insurance, Cordelia Ekeocha, hunger among children remains a serious concern.

“When you look around Nigeria, there are so many starving children… feeding these children shows that love,” – Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Cornerstone Insurance, Cordelia Ekeocha.

She explained that the company’s involvement goes beyond business and is part of its wider responsibility to society. The company also stressed that consistency is important to keep public attention on food insecurity and encourage more people and organisations to support vulnerable children.

How Lagos Food Bank supports children

The Executive Director of the Lagos Food Bank, Michael Sunbola, said the organisation focuses on low-cost private schools that serve children of daily income earners. He explained that regular feeding helps improve pupils’ attendance, concentration and learning outcomes.

He also praised Cornerstone Insurance for its steady support, noting that consistency is what keeps the programme running.

How you can be part of this initiative

You do not need to be a big company to help.

You can:

  • Volunteer your time with the Lagos Food Bank during meal packing and distribution.
  • Donate food items, funds or logistics support.
  • Encourage your workplace, church, school or business to partner with the programme.
  • Share verified information about child hunger and local feeding projects.

This partnership shows that fighting hunger is possible when businesses, NGOs and everyday Nigerians work together. By supporting school feeding programmes, we help children stay healthy, remain in school and build a better future for Nigeria.
