Africa Shines on the Global Stage: E1 Championship Fashion Show Celebrates Creativity and Economic Growth

The E1 Championship Fashion Show recently turned the EbonyLife Centre in Lagos into a vibrant celebration of African creativity. Themed “Africa Takes the Global Runway,” the event showcased the rich diversity and innovation of African fashion, bringing together designers from across the continent and the diaspora.

Designers like Tannymash (Zimbabwe), Afrikayla, Keannie Fashion Empire, What 2 Wear, Anjoreen Couture, Prince Glam Style (Nigeria), SGTC Clothing (Ghana), Dashikipride African Designers (New York), and Rikaotobyme, who also served as the creative director, all displayed stunning collections that blended tradition with modern sophistication.

Each outfit told a story of cultural pride, evolution, and self-expression — showing that African fashion is not just about clothing, but identity and global relevance.

Fashion as a Driver of Africa’s Economic Empowerment

Beyond the glamour, the event had a deeper purpose — to promote fashion as a key part of Africa’s creative economy. Partnering with the Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) initiative of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and the Fund for Export Development in Africa (FEDA), the show highlighted the need for investment and collaboration in the fashion sector.

This initiative focuses on empowering designers and cultural entrepreneurs through funding, trade access, and industrial development, ensuring that African talent gets the global exposure and business support it deserves.

“African fashion is more than style; it’s a statement of progress, pride, and possibility.”- Rikaotobyme

Collaboration for a Brighter Creative Future

Supported by the Lagos State Government, Aurora International Foundation, and other creative and business partners, the event demonstrated how strategic partnerships can turn creativity into economic power. The fashion industry is fast becoming a source of youth employment, export growth, and cross-border collaboration

The E1 Championship Fashion Show was more than an event — it was a movement. It proved that Africa is not just part of the global fashion conversation but is boldly leading it. With the right support and investment, Africa’s creative industries can redefine global standards and create sustainable opportunities for generations to come.
