FG Targets 5 million Nigerians as 700 Oyo Youths Receive Skills and Starter Tools

The Federal Government has expanded its National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS), targeting about five million Nigerians for poverty reduction over the next four years.

As part of the rollout, 700 youths in Oyo State completed a 10-day training programme covering Artificial Intelligence (AI), graphics design, fashion design and make-up artistry. The programme ran from September 28 to October 9, 2026, and beneficiaries received various forms of business and digital support.

Participants received tools such as laptops, sewing machines, make-up kits, and digital tablets, depending on their training areas. The aim is to help young people turn acquired skills into businesses, employment, and sustainable sources of income.

Who Can Benefit?

The Oyo batch has already been completed, so new applicants cannot apply for that particular training now.

However, the Federal Government has stated that the initiative will be replicated across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, creating opportunities for more young Nigerians to access skills training, tools and livelihood support.

Young Nigerians interested in vocational skills, digital skills, entrepreneurship and self-employment should therefore monitor official government announcements for the next phase.

How to Position Yourself for the Next Batch

  1. Follow announcements from the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (OSSAP-TVEE) and relevant government agencies.
  1. Keep your valid identification and personal information ready.
  1. Build interest or basic knowledge in areas such as AI, graphics design, fashion, beauty, and entrepreneurship.
  1. Apply only through an official government channel when the next application window is announced.
  1. Avoid paying anyone who claims they can guarantee selection.

“Young people … need opportunity. They need skills. They need the tools to compete and build sustainable livelihoods.” — Dr Abiola Arogundade

The Oyo programme shows the type of skills and entrepreneurship support that may become available as NPRGS expands nationwide. Although the current Oyo application window is closed, young Nigerians can prepare now and watch for the next official rollout.
