Why this matters to passengers and the public
This incident highlights the importance of emergency preparedness in public facilities, especially at busy transport hubs like Lagos airport.
For passengers and airport users, the most important update is that:
- no casualty has been recorded,
- the situation is being handled by trained airport emergency teams,
- safety remains the top priority.
It also shows why renovation and infrastructure upgrades are critical for safer and more modern aviation facilities in Nigeria.
How you can be part of safety and response efforts
You can support safer airports in practical ways by:
- following only verified updates from FAAN and airport authorities,
- avoiding spreading unconfirmed photos or rumours during emergencies,
- promptly reporting any unusual smoke, fire risk or safety concerns to airport staff whenever you are at any terminal,
- complying with all safety instructions during airport operations.
Passengers travelling through Lagos are advised to stay calm, monitor official announcements and cooperate with airport officials if movement around the affected area is restricted.
The quick response by FAAN’s emergency team prevented casualties and limited further risks at the Lagos airport old terminal. Beyond today’s incident, sustained investment in airport infrastructure and public cooperation remain key to safer air travel in Nigeria.
