INTELS Empowers 62 Women Through Skills and Entrepreneurship in Rivers State

INTELS Nigeria Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to women’s economic empowerment by graduating 62 women from its 2025 Women Empowerment Project Scheme, Synergy (WEPSS). The graduation took place at the Rosa Volpi Women Development Centre within the Federal Lighter Terminal at the Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone, Rivers State.

Launched in 2013, WEPSS aims to train 5,000 women in tailoring and fashion design over 20 years, providing skills, confidence, and resources to build viable businesses. The scheme was expanded in 2017 to reach more women within INTELS’ host communities, targeting low-income beneficiaries and supporting local economic growth.

“We firmly believe that when women thrive, communities thrive. Our vision for WEPSS has always been to do more than train; we want to create opportunities for lasting prosperity.”- INTELS Managing Director, Mr. Pasquale Fiore

Training, Support, and Opportunities

The programme not only provides training but also supports excellence. Since 2022, top graduates receive fully equipped shops or starter kits, enabling them to start their businesses immediately. For 2025, the top 15 graduates were awarded starter kits, including industrial sewing machines and steam irons, while the Best Graduating Trainee, Saraphina Jacob, received N2 million alongside her kit.

Previous beneficiaries, such as Obarijima Lewa, have launched successful fashion businesses with INTELS’ support, employing others and contributing to community development.

How to Join and Benefit

Women interested in WEPSS can apply through INTELS’ official channels, often announced via local community offices, company social media, and the Rosa Volpi Women Development Centre. The scheme provides:

  • Tailoring and fashion design training
  • Mentorship and exposure to industry events
  • Starter kits or fully equipped shops for top performers
  • Opportunities to contribute to family welfare and local economies

Programmes like WEPSS demonstrate that with dedication, resilience, and support, women can achieve financial independence and entrepreneurial success.

INTELS continues to invest in women’s empowerment, education, and entrepreneurship, creating pathways for sustainable livelihoods. Through WEPSS, women in Rivers State and beyond are not just learning skills—they are building businesses, supporting families, and shaping thriving communities.
