JAMB Deploys Decoy Website to Catch Exam Cheats: What Students Must Know

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has taken a bold step to fight examination malpractice in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). During the mock exam held on Thursday, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, revealed that a fake website was deliberately created by the board to catch candidates attempting to cheat.

Speaking from a CBT centre in Bwari, Abuja, Oloyede said the decoy website was designed to lure students seeking illegal access to UTME questions. Shockingly, about 180 candidates have already fallen into the trap and paid to the fake site.

Don’t Be Fooled: Cheating Has Consequences

Prof. Oloyede warned candidates against patronising rogue websites and individuals claiming they can help with questions or answers. He made it clear that those who paid for such illegal services have already committed an offence. Their results—both UTME and Direct Entry—will be cancelled.

He said, “To attempt to cheat is already an infraction. We are going to deal firmly with them.”

The Registrar also pointed out that some schools and candidates register with the aim of boosting their scores dishonestly, often misleading even state officials into celebrating false achievements.

“Cheating might give you a shortcut today, but it will cost you your future tomorrow.”

How to Stay Safe and Succeed

JAMB’s message to students is clear:

Study hard instead of looking for shortcuts.

Don’t share your registration number with anyone.

Avoid registering by proxy or through unverified agents.

Ignore offers from fake websites asking for payments in exchange for questions.

Prof. Oloyede added that some students paid as much as ₦30,000 for promises that will never be fulfilled. He expressed disappointment but noted that JAMB is ahead of these fraudsters.

This move by JAMB is not just to punish wrongdoers but to warn honest students. If you’re preparing for UTME or DE, stay focused on your books. Don’t let the temptation of fake help ruin your future. JAMB is watching—and ready to act.

Remember: Success earned the right way lasts longer and brings peace of mind.
