Kaduna State Empowers Women and Boosts Economic Development

Governor, Uba Sanni- Kaduna State Governor

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, is championing economic empowerment and financial inclusion through innovative programs aimed at improving the lives of underserved women, civil servants, and the broader population.

Empowering Women Through the “A Kori Taluachi” Programme

Governor Sani’s administration has empowered 4,912 women across Kaduna State through the “A Kori Taluachi” poverty alleviation initiative. This program provides financial assistance ranging from ₦50,000 to ₦300,000 to help women achieve economic independence. The governor is committed to empowering women and promoting economic independence among them. The ‘A Kori Taluachi’ programme is one of the ways we are achieving this goal,” said Prof. Ayuba Bello, the governor’s Principal Private Secretary, during a recent media briefing.

Additionally, the state supported 100 food vendors during the Kaduna Food Festival in April 2024, creating opportunities for small-scale entrepreneurs and boosting the local economy.

Support for Civil Servants and Pensioners

The state government introduced a ₦500 million revolving loan scheme for civil servants, offering loans at a low interest rate of 5%. The initiative aims to help workers meet financial obligations and improve their standard of living. Governor Sani’s administration has also made significant strides in clearing pension arrears, with ₦4.7 billion paid out for death and gratuity benefits. This initiative demonstrates the government’s dedication to improving the welfare of retired workers.

Commitment to Transparency and Accountability

Kaduna State has earned accolades for its fiscal transparency. It ranks first in the Transparency and Public Integrity Index by the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity Watch (CeFTPIW) and second in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria’s Accountability and Transparency Index.

Prof. Bello emphasized, “We are proud of our achievements in promoting transparency and accountability. This is essential for good governance and the delivery of quality services to our citizens.

We are committed to empowering our people, promoting transparency, and fostering economic independence. These initiatives reflect our vision for a Kaduna State where every citizen can thrive.” – Prof. Ayuba Bello, Principal Private Secretary to Governor Uba Sani.

Improved Revenue and Citizen Engagement

Through policies on financial inclusion and expanding the tax net, Kaduna State generated ₦62.49 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) last year, making it the highest earner in northern Nigeria. The government has also invested in rural transformation, which has improved voluntary tax compliance.

Governor Uba Sani’s administration is driving inclusive development through programs that empower women, support civil servants, and promote transparency. These initiatives demonstrate a commitment to building a more prosperous and equitable Kaduna State for all citizens.
