Kano Governor Pledges to End Decades-Long Water Crisis in Rano
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf
For decades, residents of Rano Town, Kano State, have faced severe water shortages, making access to clean and sustainable water a major challenge. In a renewed effort to address this long-standing issue, Governor Abba Yusuf has directed the Ministry of Water Resources to ensure a sustainable and uninterrupted water supply to the area.
The governor made this commitment while receiving the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Umar, who paid him a Sallah homage at the Government House in Kano.
Government’s Plan to Solve the Water Crisis
Governor Yusuf assured the Emir and the people of Rano that the government is taking concrete steps to resolve the water crisis. He stated that experts have been engaged to tap water from Tiga Dam to supply Rano Town. This initiative aims to provide residents with a steady and reliable water source.
Additionally, the government is set to construct boreholes in collaboration with the local government to further enhance water accessibility. Despite the challenging rocky terrain in the region, advanced surveying techniques will be used to locate underground water sources and ensure a consistent supply.
“We will use advanced surveying techniques to detect water aquifers beneath the rocky terrain and ensure a steady supply of water,” Governor Yusuf said.
Broader Commitment to Development
Beyond solving the water crisis, the governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to improving key sectors, including:
Agriculture – Supporting farmers with modern tools and resources.
Healthcare – Enhancing hospitals and clinics for better medical services.
Environmental Development – Promoting clean and sustainable urban planning.
Education – Investing in schools, teachers, and learning facilities.
Women & Youth Empowerment – Creating job opportunities and skill acquisition programs.
Governor Yusuf also extended his condolences to the Emir of Rano over the tragic killing of Kano indigenes in Uromi, Edo State. He praised the Emir’s efforts in calming tensions and ensuring peace among affected families.
“Had it not been for the wise intervention of the Emir, only God knows what could have happened,” the governor stated.

Emir of Rano Commends Government Efforts
In response, the Emir of Rano expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for his commitment to the development of the Emirate. He acknowledged the government’s progress in key areas such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and security.
The Emir also appreciated the governor’s quick action in replacing an incompetent contractor for the five-kilometer road project, which has since recorded significant progress.
“We appreciate your efforts in education, healthcare, agriculture, security, and the timely payment of retirees’ gratuities,” the Emir said.
The Kano State government’s renewed commitment to solving Rano’s water crisis is a step in the right direction toward improving the quality of life for residents. Access to clean water is essential for health, economic growth, and overall development.
As the administration continues to invest in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, citizens are encouraged to support and participate in these initiatives for a better and more prosperous Kano State.
