MAPOLY Secures NBC Approval for Campus Radio to Boost Media Training

Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun State, has received approval from the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to operate a campus radio station. This milestone is expected to significantly benefit students, especially those studying Mass Communication, by providing hands-on training in broadcasting. 

NBC’s Approval and Its Significance 

The institution’s Public Relations Officer, ‘Yemi Ajibola, announced the approval in a statement issued on Friday. The approval, conveyed through a letter from NBC Secretary Francisca Aiyetan to MAPOLY’s Rector, Dr. Koye Jolaoso, marks a major achievement for the institution. 

Ajibola emphasized that the campus radio, operating on 99.7MHz, would serve as a practical training ground for students. According to NBC, the approval followed the station’s successful completion of its test transmission, which met the legal and technical standards outlined in the National Broadcasting Commission Act, Cap. N11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and the Nigeria Broadcasting Code. 

Enhancing Practical Learning for Students 

With this approval, MAPOLY’s Mass Communication Department now has a functional platform to equip students with practical broadcasting skills. This initiative aligns with the institution’s broader agenda of improving education quality and making students industry ready. 

The campus radio will allow students to gain first-hand experience in journalism, radio production, and media management, thereby increasing their competitiveness in the job market. It will also serve as an avenue for information dissemination within the school and its surrounding communities.
