Massive Boost for Education in Nasarawa
The Nasarawa State Government has officially launched the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project in collaboration with the World Bank. This initiative will benefit 490 public secondary schools across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, while flagging off the project in Lafia, explained that the programme aims to improve access, retention, and quality of education for adolescent girls in secondary schools. This effort follows the state government’s release of ₦150 million as a counterpart fund, fulfilling all federal requirements for participation.
“This programme is aimed at empowering girls through education and relevant skills for self-development,” — Governor Abdullahi Sule
What the AGILE Project Offers
The AGILE project, which is already running in 21 states across Nigeria, focuses on girls aged 10 to 20, particularly those from vulnerable backgrounds who are at risk of dropping out.
According to Aishatu Isoga, the Nasarawa State Project Coordinator, the initiative includes:
Construction and rehabilitation of schools
Provision of essential learning materials
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities
Advocacy, sensitization, and skill empowerment for girls
School Improvement Grants directly disbursed to schools
Out of 515 schools, 490 will benefit in the first phase, with schools receiving either small, medium, or large grants based on need. Grants will be managed by School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs).
How to Benefit from the Project
If you are a parent, teacher, or school administrator:
Stay informed through your local SBMC on how your school is selected.
Participate actively in the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan.
Encourage your daughters and young girls in your community to remain in school.
Support community awareness campaigns that promote girls’ education.
If you are a student (especially girls aged 10–20), take advantage of improved school facilities and skill-building opportunities to stay in school and reach your full potential.
The Nasarawa AGILE project is a game-changer for girls’ education, aiming not just to renovate classrooms, but to transform lives through empowerment, access, and quality learning environments. The success of this project depends on the active participation of every community member.
