NASRDA Urges Technology Skills to Tackle Youth Unemployment in Nigeria

The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), in partnership with Grassroots Bridge Builders (GBB), has called for stronger investment in technology-driven skills to help Nigerian youths secure jobs, reduce unemployment and curb social vices.

The call was made at the official launch of the NASRDA/Grassroots Bridge Builders Skills Development Project held at the Women Development Centre, Abuja, where hundreds of young people gathered to access empowerment opportunities.

Why Technology Skills Matter for Nigerian Youths

According to the organizers, Nigeria’s growing youth population can only become productive if young people are trained in relevant and practical digital and technology-based skills that match today’s labour market.

“Skills acquisition remains one of the most powerful tools for changing negative narratives among vulnerable youths and unlocking their hidden potential for national growth,” said Engr. Ibrahim Moses Igoche, Director-General of Grassroots Bridge Builders.

He explained that previous GBB programmes have helped many young people leave the streets, start profitable ventures and avoid drug abuse and other social vices.

How NASRDA Is Supporting Youth Empowerment

Speaking through NASRDA’s Director of Media and Corporate Communications, Dr Felix Ale, the Director-General of NASRDA, Dr Matthew Adepoju, described skills acquisition as more than job creation.

He said technology and science-based training help young people become innovators, problem-solvers and contributors to national development, especially in areas linked to science, space technology and digital solutions.

NASRDA noted that empowering youths with technology-focused skills supports its mandate of using science and innovation to address Nigeria’s economic and social challenges.

How Young Nigerians Can Be Part of the Programme

Interested youths can benefit by:

Monitoring NASRDA and Grassroots Bridge Builders’ official platforms for future training announcements.

Applying for upcoming skills development programmes and bootcamps organised under the partnership.

Actively participating in technology, digital and innovation-focused training opportunities offered through government and civil society partners.

These programmes are open to young people seeking practical skills for employment, entrepreneurship and innovation.

Drug-Free and Productive Path for Youths

Also speaking at the event, the NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohammed Marwa (rtd), encouraged youths to stay away from drugs and criminal activities and instead embrace skills acquisition as a safer and more sustainable path to personal and national growth.

The NASRDA and Grassroots Bridge Builders initiative shows that technology-driven skills training can help Nigerian youths secure jobs, build businesses and contribute meaningfully to national development. Young people are encouraged to follow upcoming announcements and take advantage of these empowerment opportunities.
