In a significant effort to promote environmental sustainability, the Obijackson Foundation, in partnership with the Okija Bu Enyi Brothers Assembly, has donated essential waste evacuation tools to the Okija community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Donation to Improve Waste Management

The donation includes 140 waste bins, two compactor trucks, two operational Hilux vehicles, a staff bus, brooms, and other necessary sanitation tools. Additionally, the foundation employed over 100 street sweepers to support the initiative, ensuring cleaner streets and improved waste disposal.

Launch of the ‘Keep Okija Clean’ Initiative

The donation ceremony, held at St. Mary’s School Field, Okija, marked the official launch of the Keep Okija Clean initiative. This project aims to establish a sustainable waste management system while creating job opportunities for residents. Speaking at the event, the foundation’s founder, Ernest Azudialu-Obiejesi, emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a clean and healthy environment. He also revealed plans to develop a properly engineered landfill to enhance waste disposal efficiency.

Support from Anambra State Government

Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Felix Odimegwu, praised the initiative, noting that it aligns with the state’s waste sorting policy. Other dignitaries present included the Managing Director of Anambra Waste Management Authority, Mr. Mike Ozoemena, and Okija’s traditional ruler, HRH Igwe Emeka Okezie.

Obijackson Foundation’s Broader Impact

Beyond waste management, the Obijackson Foundation has been actively involved in various development projects, particularly in education, healthcare, and tourism. Some of its notable initiatives include the Gonzaga Jesuit College, Obijackson Women and Children’s Hospital, and Acropolis Gardens.

This initiative demonstrates the power of private sector involvement in community development. By donating waste management tools and creating jobs, the Obijackson Foundation is not only improving sanitation in Okija but also setting an example for other communities. Residents are encouraged to support and maintain these efforts to ensure long-term environmental benefits.
