Oyo College of Nursing Graduates 469 Students, Reaffirms Commitment to Quality Healthcare

The Oyo State Government has reiterated its dedication to improving healthcare delivery by ensuring the training and graduation of skilled and compassionate nurses. This assurance came during the 27th convocation ceremony of the Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Eleyele, Ibadan, where 469 students were awarded certificates.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Health and Chairman of the College Governing Council, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, praised the College for maintaining high academic standards and discipline. She described the graduation as a significant milestone in the academic and professional journey of the new nurses, who are now ready to serve with “dignity and skill.”
Outstanding Achievements Recognized
Among the 469 graduates, 31 were honored as the best graduating students. Three others received the Provost’s Awards for best behavior, excellence in practical, and top performance in nutrition. Adetunji Shukurat, a graduate of Basic Nursing, emerged as the overall best student.
The Provost, Gbonjubola Owolabi, acknowledged the efforts of parents and guardians, while also applauding the role of the College in producing middle-level healthcare professionals who are vital to the health sector. She noted that the College has remained a household name in nursing education across Nigeria.
Inspiring Words from Alumni and Government Officials
Alumnus and wife of the late Alaafin of Oyo, Abiwumi Owoade, encouraged the graduates to be agents of change in society. “Set the pace and break barriers,” she urged, challenging them to find solutions in a rapidly evolving world.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Salihu Adelabu, highlighted the College’s contribution to national healthcare excellence. He praised the institution for training professionals who have positioned Nigeria as a key player in the global health sector.
