Pan-Atlantic University, NNPC Foundation Launch Environmental Communication Initiative
Pan-Atlantic University, through its Centre for Media and Communication Research (CMCR), has partnered with the NNPC Foundation to organise the 2nd NNPC Foundation Symposium on Energy and Environmental Communication.
The symposium, scheduled for June 10–11, aims to promote environmental sustainability, climate awareness, and responsible energy communication across Nigeria.
According to the Director of CMCR, Nelson Okorie, the programme will bring together experts, scholars, media professionals, policymakers, and development advocates from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones to discuss environmental challenges and sustainable solutions.
The initiative forms part of the Corporate Social Responsibility efforts of the NNPC Foundation to support national development and environmental protection.

Why Environmental Communication Is Important in Nigeria
Environmental communication helps educate people about major issues affecting communities, including:
Climate change
Flooding and erosion
Air and water pollution
Waste management
Renewable energy
Biodiversity conservation
Nigeria continues to face environmental challenges that affect public health, agriculture, livelihoods, and infrastructure. Experts believe better communication and public awareness can help communities adapt and respond more effectively.
“Environmental communication is a catalyst for promoting environmental adaptation, conservation, and biodiversity in modern societies,” Prof. Nelson Okorie stated.
The symposium is expected to encourage stronger collaboration between government institutions, researchers, media organisations, and citizens in addressing environmental issues.
