Rotary Club Seeks Collaboration to Tackle Hunger in Nigeria

The Rotary Club of Lagos

The Rotary Club of Lagos has called for stronger partnerships across various sectors to address hunger and promote lasting peace in Nigeria. This was highlighted at the World Peace and Understanding Day Symposium 2025, where experts emphasized that ending hunger requires collective action.

The Link Between Hunger and Peace

Speaking at the event, the President of the Rotary Club of Lagos, Adetunji Lamidi, explained that hunger and poverty are major obstacles to peace and development. He noted that the theme, “Peace Through Partnerships: Ending Hunger Together,” aligns with Rotary’s mission to empower communities through sustainable initiatives.

“We recognize that peace and prosperity are intertwined. Addressing hunger and poverty is essential for lasting peace. Through partnerships, we can end hunger, promote understanding, and help communities thrive,” Lamidi stated.

Economic and Social Impact of Hunger

The President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Gabriel Idahosa, warned that failing to address hunger could lead to social unrest, economic instability, and conflicts that could destabilize Nigeria. He urged businesses, policymakers, and individuals to work together to improve food security.

Rotary’s Commitment to Ending Hunger

The District Governor of Rotary D9112, Olufemi Adenekan, assured that Rotary will expand its advocacy efforts nationwide. He noted that while Lagos and Ogun States have limited land for large-scale farming, the organization is looking beyond these areas to support agriculture in other regions.

In her keynote address, Edobong Akpabio stressed that hunger is a global threat to peace, and collaboration in agriculture can help eliminate food scarcity. She urged individuals, private organizations, and the government to invest in sustainable farming practices.

The call for collaboration is a reminder that ending hunger is not the responsibility of one group alone—it requires collective effort. Nigerians are encouraged to support farming initiatives, embrace partnerships, and contribute to food security, as tackling hunger will help build a more peaceful and prosperous society.
