WAEC Unveils CB-WASSCE 2026 Timetable for Private Candidates (First Series)

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the 2026 Common-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) timetable for Private Candidates – First Series. The schedule gives critical dates, subjects, and times for candidates preparing for the examination.

Examination Dates and Format

According to the timetable published on WAEC’s official platforms, the CB-WASSCE for Private Candidates – First Series will begin on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, and run through to Saturday, February 14, 2026.

This year’s sitting will be conducted as a fully Computer-Based Test (CBT) — a major step in WAEC’s ongoing digitisation of exams aimed at improving efficiency and reducing malpractices. Private candidates are required to sit the CBT at designated computer centres, where all questions will be presented and submitted electronically.

Key Instructions for Candidates

Review the Timetable Carefully: Candidates should go through the timetable thoroughly to know the exact dates and times of their subjects.

Adhere to Guidelines: WAEC has advised candidates to follow all examination guidelines to avoid complications.

Prepare for CBT Mode: Since this examination will be computer-based, candidates are encouraged to familiarise themselves with CBT platforms and practice with mock tests where available.

 Why the CBT Matters

The shift to a computer-based format aligns with Federal Government directives calling for WAEC and NECO to adopt CBT for examinations by 2026. This move is designed to improve administration, limit malpractice, and make the exam process more efficient and modern.

The adoption of computer-based testing is part of our efforts to modernise the examination process and ensure a smooth, transparent assessment experience for all candidates.”- A WAEC official

Preparing for the Exam

To help ensure success, candidates should:

Start revision early and use past questions relevant to the CBT format.

Take advantage of mock CBT portals or practice tools where available.

Confirm their registration status and exam venue well ahead of time.

Arrange their travel and accommodation for exam days if required.

 Conclusion

The release of the 2026 CB-WASSCE timetable for Private Candidates – First Series marks a major step in the transition to digital examinations. With the CBT format now in place, candidates are urged to prepare effectively, understand the scheduling details, and comply with all WAEC requirements to achieve the best possible results.
