Nigeria Set to Export Made-in-Nigeria Vehicles: NADDC Charts New Path
Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Enoh.
The Federal Government has inaugurated the new Governing Board of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), with a strong push to transform Nigeria into an automotive manufacturing and export hub. The 12-member board, chaired by Chief Emma Eneukwu, was inaugurated by the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Enoh, in Abuja.
Senator Enoh charged the board to work with dedication and innovation to grow the Nigerian automotive industry, reaffirming the President’s keen interest in its development.
“We are going to give it a serious push. The president has shown strong interest. It’s a work in progress and we have his support,” — Senator John Enoh.
Strategic Focus on Exports and Volume
Chief Eneukwu pledged to work with “patriotic resolve and strategic foresight” to reposition Nigeria as a leader in vehicle production and technology in Africa. He stressed that NADDC is strategically placed to boost assembly, innovation, and local manufacturing.
Director General of NADDC, Joseph Osanipin, added that the council is prioritizing production volume over the number of plants, with vehicle assembly numbers rising from 3,000 to nearly 12,000 annually under his leadership.
Importantly, Osanipin revealed plans to begin exporting made-in-Nigeria vehicles and automotive machines, stating that the council is now focused on producing durable, globally competitive products.
